Since 1935
Borgatti’s began with a leap of faith. In the early 1900s, Lindo and Maria Borgatti left their home in Bologna, Italy, and crossed the Atlantic to start a new life in America. They arrived with little more than determination and Maria’s treasured family pasta recipes.
After working a variety of jobs from Boston to New York, the couple eventually saved enough to open a small pasta shop on East 187th Street in the Bronx. In 1935, Borgatti’s Ravioli & Egg Noodles officially opened its doors in Bronx Little Italy. The family business quickly became a neighborhood staple, helped by the couple’s six sons who worked alongside them.
One of those sons, Mario Borgatti, began working in the store full time after graduating from high school. He learned the craft of pasta making from his parents and eventually carried the business forward, introducing new specialty pasta flavors such as spinach, tomato, carrot, and whole wheat. Mario’s dedication to the shop spanned nearly his entire life. Aside from serving in World War II aboard the cargo ship USS Prentiss, he continued working at Borgatti’s into his late 90s and remained a daily presence in the store until his passing in 2014.
The tradition continued with Mario’s son, Chris Borgatti, who grew up in the store and learned the craft directly from his father. Today, Chris represents the third generation of pasta makers in the Borgatti family, working alongside his wife Joan and now the fourth generation as well. The shop remains a place where pasta is still made the traditional way—by hand, with the same care and recipes passed down through the family.
For over 90 years, Borgatti’s has remained family-owned and deeply rooted in its Bronx neighborhood. What began as a small neighborhood shop has grown into a brand recognized far beyond New York. Borgatti’s pasta now ships nationwide, connecting families across the country to the tradition, flavor, and comfort of homemade pasta.
Through every generation, the mission has remained the same: to make pasta the way the Borgatti family loves to eat it—simple, authentic, and made with care.
